Solar Viejo Reserva is a perfect expression of the power and depth which a Rioja wine is capable of achieving. A blend of Tempranillo and Graciano grapes aged for 12 months in French and American oak barrels and a long period of bottle ageing.
To express its great aromatic intensity, it needs to be vigorously swirled in the glass. It is rich in notes of baking bread, yeasts, spices and toasty notes of oak. There are full, fine notes of preserved black fruits, and a rather more subtle touch, delivered by the Graciano.
On the palate it is full avoured, powerful and elegant. Velvet tannins with a big structure, dening notes of cocoa and coffee coming from the oak ageing. Intense finish.

Solar Viejo is a Rioja winery with over 75 years of history, and is situated near the medieval village of Laguardia. The original winery was founded in one of the emblematic manors of Laguardia, within the walled enclosure of the villa while the new facilities, built over 30 years ago, are in the vicinity of the town and preserve the essence of that original experience. The vineyards are protected by the cold winds of the Rioja Alavesa, in the foothills of the Sierra de Cantabria and it is here that the excellent quality grapes are grown.
Winemaker Vanesa Insausti has grown-up making Rioja and gained experience making wines all across the region before settling at Solar Viejo in 2007. Vanesa's aim is always to make the highest quality wines from the very best fruit.
