"Baron Philippe de Rothschild's winemakers have decided to combine the two terroirs that offer the best conditions for this early variety. The mediterranean terroir combines gravelly soil with a hot climate tempered by sea breezes to give wines with concentrated,super-ripe fruit flavours, body and substance. The oceanic terroir moderates this richness: with a damp climate tempered by hot spells and deep, predominantly clay-limestone soil, its wines bring out merlot's fresher notes."
