Ramón Bilbao is a renowned Spanish winery based in Rioja, known for producing high-quality wines that blend tradition with innovation. Established in 1924, the winery specializes in crafting elegant, complex wines, with a focus on Tempranillo grapes. Their top-tier wine, Mirto, is made from old vines in select vineyards and is produced only in exceptional years, reflecting the excellence and craftsmanship that define the Ramón Bilbao legacy.
The vineyards are over 20 years old, located on our Las Amedias estate at an altitude of 770 meters. The Verdejo vines grow in poor soils with little organic matter, and the gravel helps with aeration and drainage.
The best bunches were selected, and the grapes were macerated for 8-10 hours at 6ºC in an inert atmosphere. Alcoholic fermentation took place at 16ºC in concrete vats. The wine was then transferred to barrels with its lees, stirred weekly with batonnage. It was aged for 8 months in French and Hungarian oak barrels.
The winter was very cold in 2021, with some snow, while the spring was mild and dry. The summer was moderately warm, and the post-harvest autumn was mild and humid. The night harvest began on September 11, with cooler and slightly more humid nights than usual. The grape bunches were loose with medium-sized berries.
