Ramón Bilbao is a renowned Spanish winery based in Rioja, known for producing high-quality wines that blend tradition with innovation. Established in 1924, the winery specializes in crafting elegant, complex wines, with a focus on Tempranillo grapes. Their top-tier wine, Mirto, is made from old vines in select vineyards and is produced only in exceptional years, reflecting the excellence and craftsmanship that define the Ramón Bilbao legacy.
The grapes come from select vineyards in Rioja Oriental, located in towns like Tudelilla, Grávalos, Arnedo, and Monte Yerga. The Garnacha vines are grown on low trellises in limestone-rich alluvial soils. The vineyards are at 600 meters altitude, facing east-west.
Handpicked grapes are carefully selected. The wine is fermented in concrete tanks at low temperatures, with gentle pump-overs to softly extract the flavors. It is aged for 12 months in French oak barrels (second and third use) to preserve the Garnacha’s elegant fruit, followed by 6 more months in concrete before bottling.
The 2020 harvest took place in vineyards across Rioja Oriental, including towns like Tudelilla, Grávalos, and Arnedo. The Garnacha vines grow on low trellises in limestone-rich alluvial soils, at 600 meters altitude, with east-west exposure.
