Matahiwi Estate is located in the very heart of the Wairarapa. They pride themselves on being a sustainable family-owned winery producing its wine in accordance with the Sustainable Winegrowing New Zealand where they promote healthy soils and bio-diversity in the vineyard. They plant flowering buckwheat and phacelia to attract natural predators for some vineyard pests, while clovers, oats, chicory and vetch provide nitrogen and other nutrients to vines when they are mown or cultivated into the ground. To a large extent, homegrown mulches and products made from seaweeds and humic acids replace hard fertilisers. Sheep wander among the vines in winter.
This Pinot Noir is sourced from vineyards in the northern Wairarapa and is comprised of several different clones of the Pinot Noir grape. Each batch is kept separate until blending to ensure we can create the best quality and most consistent product.
Enjoy with your favourite lamb dish or a full-flavoured Beef Bourguignon.
