Tasting notes

This fine Chardonnay from France's famous Burgundy region initially seduces with a fresh nose of white flowers, flint and toasted notes. On the palate, an aromatic and full-bodied wine is revealed, with flavours of citrus and green apple, and a pleasant minerality. Can be served as an aperitif, but also works perfectly with seafood dishes, onion tarts and alongside a cheesboard with Brie, Vacherin, Saint-Nectaire, Mont-d'or or Beaufort.

The wines of Madame Veuve Point take their name from the inspirational female winemaker – Jeanne Marie Point – who was widowed at the tender age of 26 (“veuve” means widow in French). In 1895, she married vigneron Claude Point, and joined him in his vineyards in Solutré-Pouilly in the Maconnais region of Burgundy. When Claude died in 1903, the newly widowed Jeanne Marie decided that she would continue to work the vineyards, and continue the winemaking legacy that she and Claude had begun.
Despite her dedication, other winegrowers in her village did not accept her because she was a woman. However in 1904, one of her wines won the Grand Prize at the St Louis World Fair in the USA, finally bringing her the recognition she deserved. Today, the winery is named in her honour, as a pioneering woman in wine. And her legacy of hard work and dedication continues to this day. Madame Veuve Point’s great-great-granddaughter Géraldine Point, is now at the helm of the family business, which produces quality Burgundian wines in close collaboration with some of the region’s long established winegrowers.
