One of the most exceptional of the small independent sherry houses, Fernando de Castilla was revitalised in 1999 by Jan Pettersen, a Norwegian gone native with a passion for top quality sherry. In just a decade since then, Fernando de Castillo has earned a very high profile, and established itself as one of the outstanding producers in Jerez, consistently producing excellent sherry and winning a string of awards including a Decanter International Trophy in 2009 for its Amontillado, and in 2010 for its Antique Pala Cortado. This Antique Amontillado has a greenish amber tint, typical of aged amontillados of a rich golden colour. There is a real tang to both nose and palate with orange peel, eucalyptus, varnished wood and fennel. There finish is long and dry, with a lingering aftertaste. This sherry is ideal with consomme, hard cheeses or tapas dishes, as well as certain oriental fusion dishes.
"The N.V. Amontillado Antique is medium to dark amber with nutty, dried fruit, and orange peel aromas. It offers excellent intensity." 92 points - Jay Miller for Robert Parker's Wine Advocate, Feb 2008
"Lovely rich and indulgent fruit cake aromas with a bit of vanilla. Full, long, charming. Welcoming and soft. Exemplary." 18.5 points - Richard Hemming for Jancis Robinson, Sept 2012
"Aromatic, almost perfumed floral background with some spice. Unusual style with lots of citrus, made in an austere style. Delicious, specific and unique. 17.33pts/20" - Decanter, December 2011

The Antique range is always reliable. You will struggle to find better Amontillado sherry at this price. If you have not tried this then order it now and get some roasted almonds to go with it. It will not disappoint.
