The Forno family have been winemakers in Piedmont since the mid-1600's, and today, Il Falchetto is run by fourth generation brothers Giorgio, Fabrizio and Adriano. The estate itself is based in the small town of Santo Stefano Belbo on the banks of the Tanaro river, and owns vineyards either side of this, across both the Langhe and Monferrato hills.
The 'Bricco Paradiso' Barbera from Il Falchetto is a superb Italian red and great value for money. This is the estate's best selling red, and is produced from a single plot of slightly younger vines which adjoins the flagship 'Bricco Roche' vineyard. The combination of ideal location and varied mineral-based and free draining soils, creates an idea terroir for the Barbera grapes to thrive, and produces a wonderful wine.
The 'Paradiso' 2014 has lifted and perfumed aromas of bramble fruit and ripe black cherry with toast and spice notes. The palate is full bodied and rounded, with intense berry fruit and spice. The structure is perfectly balanced, with fine grained tannins well integrated, and good acidity keeping things fresh. There is a slight sappy note which is helps create a really appealing style. This has a wonderfully long and savoury finish with a hint of spice. Drinking now, this also has the stuffing to age for 5-8+ years.more ↓ less ↑
