Hamilton is one of the original Australian winemaking families.  In 1837 Richard Hamilton founded the Hamilton Vineyards, just south of Adelaide. Five winemaking generations later, in 1972, Richard's great-great-grandson Dr Richard Hamilton established a small winery in McLaren Vale under the guidance of his father Burton, a noted viticulturist, and uncle, renowned vigneron, Sydney Hamilton. The Richard Hamilton wines are gems, in 2012 5 of the Richard Hamilton wines were listed in the top 50 best buys in Australia under $20.

The amazingly well priced Richard Hamilton 'Colton's' GSM is a classic Australian blend and shows attractive, ripe violets and cherries on the nose. Seasoned oak allows the fruit to dominate the palate, but spice and white pepper balance this out beautifully. Drink now or save until 2022, this wine is a perfect match for a peppered steak or a sausage casserole.

"Sweet, blackberried, chocolatey fruit meets earth and spice notes. Ball of flavour." - James Halliday, The Wine Companion

"Richard Hamilton has outstanding estate vineyards, some of great age, all fully mature. An experienced and skilled winemaking team has allowed the full potential of those vineyards to be realised. The quality, style and consistency of both red and white wines has reached a new level; being able to keep only the best parcels for the Richard Hamilton brand is an enormous advantage." - James Halliday, The Wine Companion
