One of the most exceptional of the small independent sherry houses, Fernando de Castilla was revitalised in 1999 by Jan Pettersen, a Norwegian gone native with a passion for top quality sherry. In just a decade since then, Fernando de Castillo has earned a very high profile, and established itself as one of the outstanding producers in Jerez, consistently producing excellent sherry and winning a string of awards including a Decanter International Trophy in 2009 for its Amontillado, and in 2010 for its Antique Pala Cortado.
This Antique Oloroso is very pure, finely polished and beautifully crafted. Quite earthy and masculine, it is very dry with walnut, spices and orange peel notes. It is perect with hard cheese or cold meats, and complements a good cigar.
'The NV Antique Oloroso is open and expressive on the nose, with a predominant note of hazelnuts and varnished wood, a sweet touch of spices, brandy filled chocolates and orange rind. The perfectly balanced palate shows intense, clean, pure flavors and great length. 5,000 bottles produced yearly' eRobertparker October 2013
"Delicate aromatics of buttermilk, nutmeg, raisins and smoke. Very nicely balanced with rich fruit and nuts. Tangy style which is compact and harmonious. Long, spicy finish. 17.33pts/20" - Decanter, December 2011more ↓ less ↑
